To Be an American, from Malcolm X’s viewpoint

Paper, Order, or Assignment Requirements

Answer the following questions based on the given quote in the attached file.

Please answer the questions concerning the quotation below. Answers should be two-pages, double-spaced, with 12-point font (around 500 words). The aim of this assignment is to cultivate and display your ability to understand the text. In explicating the quotation, you will want to draw on other parts of the text. Nevertheless, keep quotations short and to a minimum (I want to hear your explanation). Explain all quotes (do not use the author’s words to make your point). Do not use secondary material. The point of this assignment is to work on your ability to read and think through the text. What does Malcolm X mean at the bottom of page 2 when he says, “Sitting at the table doesn’t make you a diner, unless you eat some of what’s on that plate” How does this relate to what he understands an “American” to be (look a bit earlier in the speech)? What does Malcolm X think it means to be an “American”? What is implied, ethically or politically, in becoming an “American” in this case? What does it mean, ethically or politically, not to be an “American”?
