The American Revolution from a Different Perspective

Prepare:
As you read in Chapter 4, an event such as the American Revolution can be difficult for Americans today to understand fully because it plays such a central role in national mythology that most Americans come to the topic with fixed ideas that prevent them from approaching the topic objectively. A potential way to overcome this issue is to view the American Revolution from a different perspective. As you read Chapter 4, please also read the sources below:

The Declaratory Act
The Massachusetts Government Act

Reflect:
As you read the assigned material, please consider the events of the Imperial Crisis from 1765 to 1775 through the eyes of the British authorities and the fears, bewilderment, and worries the British had regarding the growing rebellion of the colonies in America.

Write: In your post, answer the following questions:

What were the goals Britain had in mind when it passed the various acts to which colonists objected?
What were the justifications Americans offered for their objections and how those objections might have sounded to British ears?
What were the various means by which the colonists actively resisted British measures?
What were Britain’s responses to colonial resistance?
