MUSICAL TRIBALOGRAPHY ESSAY: (TRIBAL AWARENESS)
(Based on Perea 2014 chapter 4(Sounding Activism: Native American Popular Music and the Occupation Of Alcatraz Island), minimum of 3 citations (Perea, John-Carlos. 2014. Intertribal Native American Music in the United States. New York: Oxford University Press.) ◦Perea: pgs. 74-90

Try to organize this section chronologically, around stages of your life that reflect key “turning points” or “key incidents” that you can express through songs or musicking. Be sure to discuss both your own sense of tribal roots (even if weakly developed at this time) and your own relations/interactions/attitudes towards other tribes. You may want to address such things as:
− The various places you have lived, the demographic composition of your hometown(s)
− Comparison of your own sense of tribal identities and alliances with that of others in your family (immediate, extended, adopted, imagined).
− Your direct interactions with people from different tribal groups; your indirect awareness of difference via mass media (print media, internet, TV, film, music, etc.) and institutions (school, religious groups, clubs), and the attitudes of others around you.
− Whether and how your own tribal roots awareness has changed over time (how, why, when).
− Have larger local, national, or global events occurred in society during your life that might have affected your own experiences and attitudes about tribal belonging and difference?
