Paper, Order, or Assignment Requirements

Brexit is a new word describing a possibility that the United Kingdom may leave the
European Union (EU).
Following the 2015 general election, the re-elected Prime Minister David Cameron
reiterated a Conservative Party manifesto commitment to hold an ‘in-out’ referendum
on Britain’s membership of the EU by the end of 2017 following renegotiations with
EU leaders (The Conservative Party Manifesto 2015 . Conservative Party. p. 30.
Following several rounds of negotiations with the EU authorities, UK Prime Minister
David Cameron has announced a referendum on whether Britain should remain in
the European Union to be held on Thursday 23 June 2016.
If the UK were to leave the EU, this move might have profound implications for
London’s role as a major international financial centre.
You should prepare a report discussing the potential consequences for London’s role as a
global financial centre should Britain leave the EU.
Your report should:
Contain a discussion, including appropriate, literature-based· definitions, of what
constitutes a financial centre
Present the current role of London as a global financial centre·
Discuss the potential implication of Brexit for London’s role as a· provider of financial
services, based on clearly presented assumptions of Brexit.
You should use online and library resources, avoiding sources like Wikipedia or
election/referendum materials of political parties, presenting Brexit in an ideological fashion.
Please look for proper academic journals, research from economic think-tanks (such as
Open Europe) and economic press (The Economist, Financial Times and similar). If relevant,
please support your argumentation with examples of past economic events.
You should carefully document your use of sources of information, applying Harvard
referencing system.
Your report should not exceed 2,000 words (attachments and footnotes are not included)
