Paper, Order, or Assignment Requirements

INSTRUCTIONS: •Part I (~1-2 paragraphs): The first part of the assignment requires for you to briefly introduce the claim that you are working from and to identify the potential source(s) of scientific literature that this claim is based upon. For this section, you must carefully read your media article to identify the main source of information that is being presented. you need to find that article (Web of Science is a great tool to find this) and justify WHY you think your chose article is ‘the source’ of information that was used by the media •Part II (roughly 2-3 pages, double-spaced): The second part of this essay will ask for you to briefly summarize your primary and peer-reviewed articles’– no quotations please. What we are looking for (and what you’ll be marked on) is how well you seem to understand what each article is saying; What were the researchers investigating? Were there any hypotheses/predictions (If no hypothesis/prediction is clearly stated – what in your opinion is the research question?) What was the methodology? What was found? Note: you are not expected to summarize the statistical techniques presented. However you should have a thorough understanding of the results and implications. •Part III (~1 pages, double-spaced): In this part, I want you to critically evaluate the media claim in the context of the scientific article that you have just summarized. What are your reflective thoughts on the subject? Does this research support the finding? What are the key pieces of evidence that do, or do not support it? If the evidence doesn’t support the claim, is there another experiment that might be conducted to validate this claim?… and in that same breath, has any other research been done on this area that might support the claim (or refute it?) THIS IS THE MEDIA ARTICLE: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddrink/8495528/Red-wine-and-chocolate-can-boost-your-brain-power.html ORIGINAL ARTICLE: http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/91/6/1590.full 2 pages single spaced.
