Review the four Foundations of Capitalism (i.e., ideas foundational to a market economy) which are in the text book. Then review the 10 Planks of the Communist Manifesto (i.e., ideas foundational to a command economy) which are near the end of “Chapter II Proletarians and Communists” (available as a document by that name under the Helpful Resources content heading).

Discuss how the Foundations of Capitalism and the Planks of the Communist Manifesto are similar. Discuss how they differ.

Discuss three ways in which your current life is different because of the economic system you have lived under.

What are your thoughts as to why a poor or under employed person in a market economy might reject capitalism and prefer a socialist or communist state? In your opinion, would this person likely agree with the statement: “A political/economic system should strive to provide equality of opportunity rather than equality of outcome.”
